This book is absolutely great, I picked it out as I am embarking on a spreadbetting journey and I chose it as it sounded informative and fun, it reads like a novel but it is filled with pearls of wisdom, I wasn't disappointed and you won't be either. Sally is warm and brutally honest with her experiences, both good and bad.

Maybe my one star is unfair - the book is well written and entertaining. If that's what you're after then fine. Sadly the author was useless at spread betting both at the start and at the finish. So if you, as I was, were looking for the journey from being bad at spread betting to getting good then this is not the book for you. It's not very long so say a fine book to read on the train on it's way from Bournemouth to London. Sadly there aren't any bins at Waterloo to pop the book into upon arrival - for sure you won't want or need to re-read it for educational reasons. Perhaps the most pernicious element in this book is through it's naive charm it will encourage others to follow the same haphazard approach to the subject (i.e. spreadbetting). If you do you will lose your money. The book is a frankly a dis-service to anyone making a serious attempt to learn this game. I'm sure some readers might say "but hey it's just a 'Bridget Jones' style funny book" - true it is - but Bridget Jones never made a fool of anyone but herself. This author - who don't forget was paid by a spreadbetting company to write the blog - tries to make a fool out of you. Industry stats show 95% of spreadbetters lose a "signicant portion" of their capital. Follow the 'advice' in the book and you'll join them for sure. There are a few good books on spreadbetting - this isn't one of them.

This is a blog converted to a book by Sally Nicoll. It is very witty and whilst I don't think it should be used as a guide on how to trade and don't think it was intended to be such, it has some amusing ways on how not to trade and explains the usual pitfalls every inexperienced trader deals with when fooling around with spreads.
I would advise a newbie to spread betting to read this before they open an account and then read several other books of a more serious nature in the first few days before placing any spreads.

There are not many books on this subject in the UK, so I ordered this as soon as I heard about it. I've read about spreadbetting in the last few weeks and I've also been trading shares traditionally for a good while now. Finally, after reading the author's story, I've now got the confidence to dip my toe in. I have opened my Spreadbet account (on-line) as mentioned in the book, and am looking forward to the 50 referral top-up, and the free training manual, as well as the tiny bet sizes that are available while my confidence grows further.
Great book, and a very enjoyable read indeed. It's taken me a while, but here I go.. can't wait.

What Sally manages to capture in this book is the feeling of excitement and despair involved in learning something new.....especially when it involves an uncontrollable tidal flow of profits and losses! Her week-by-week accounts lead to surprising conclusions and are scattered with neatly told social interactions. This is a great book that introduces a lot of technical terms to the novice whilst keeping your interest by showing you a slice of life in North London.
