1 out of 5 stars Plug and play??   November 12, 2008

It plugged in - but that was it. Little blue light and a clicking noise. No docs with unit. No help from manufacturer. Am returning to Amazon with a view to purchasing product from another manufacturer - can anyone suggest a reliable back up drive?

5 out of 5 stars most helpful storage device yet..   November 8, 2008
Just so easy to use. Plug in, set up and start using. I can take all my photos and music wherever and with the WD sync software, all my work too. No annoying plug in leads. Great buy.

Bought this WD passport to back up all my files from my imac. Works perfectly, plugged it in and within half an hour all my files were backed up and i didn't have to do a thing! Macs with leopard have a program called time machine and this back-ups your files every hour by itself. Trust me Its idiot-proof!

1 out of 5 stars SYNC SOFTWARE DOES NOT BACKUP   October 28, 2008

I'll put my hands up straight away and admit I'm no techie. I bought my WD Passport for use as a backup to my PC's internal hard drive. Foolishly, I assumed that the Sync software bundled with it would do this. *** IT DOES NOT ***. In fact, once your files are encrypted it is a nightmare to extract them later. Should you need to format your internal hard drive on your home PC you are pretty much stuffed if you used Sync. WD customer service is not existent - they refer you to DMailer the company that wrote the Sync software.

I'd recommend deleting the Sync software and using the device purely as a hard drive. I can't tell you how much I wish I had done that! It is not clear when you first install Sync that it is not backup software! WD should put a large sticker on the Passport informing customers of this.

I will not be buying any more Western Digital products after this experience.

5 out of 5 stars Best external I've ever had, it has a very efficient size and transfer rate however the encryption software wasn't too helpful.   October 24, 2008

Best external I've ever had, it has a very efficient size and transfer rate however the encryption software on it wasn't too helpful but overall a very robust piece of hardware.
