A printer that knows it's purpose. I've had a packard hell and two lexmarks (a cheapie and an expensive)before this and all seemed to suffer the noise and forget their purpose and are afriad of paper after not very long at all.
This canon was dead easy to install and set up and we were printing practically immediatly. it's stylish, prints at a very good speed and it's top cover does prevent things from the pc desk above it dropping in (not all printer protection covers cover the whole of the moving parts - so defo child and messy adult friendly!
The only thing I'd fault is it's lack of a paper holder/catcher for fresh printed documents
Good and bad ..... January 27, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
A nice, basic, simple to use printer, but a word of warning - IT EATS CARTRIDGES AND THEY ARE EXPENSIVE!!!! Already we have spent more in cartridges than it cost to buy the printer and we've only had it a couple of months. We don't use the printer a lot but even so, the cartridges don't seem to last any time at all. There are no unbranded replacements on the market as yet, so until then, choose what you print very carefully!
Short life span! January 21, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
When first buying this printer I was very pleased with its abilities, especially compared to the Epson we had previously. Its photo printing was of a very good quality, and it is very quick. However, having now had it for only a couple of months, I have found that it needs several episodes of printer head cleaning before it prints without large bands across the print out- particularly bad on images. I am an architecture student, and it is not very economical or a good use of time to have to print out several copies of a picture for my portfolio, before it is of acceptable quality. It would seem that not using it for a few weeks (i.e. going home for Christmas holidays) has caused the cartridges to become irreparably clogged. It was also very disappointing to find that it is not possible to buy 'compatible' cartridges, as the official ones are very expensive, and do not last very long. Refill kits do not work with these cartridges (I discovered this after spending hours drilling away at the cartridge, only to discover the print outs were completely faded in colour). Overall, I'm very disappointed. It would probably be fine if you used it every single day and could afford to replace the cartridges every couple of weeks, but I don't so it has failed me.
I'm lucky this printer works. January 19, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered this printer with free delivery. It took five day to arrive which was fine. The email said it would be sent by Home Delivery Network but when it arrived I thought I would have problems. The printer was sent inside a grey plastic bag with only the Canon cardboard box as protection. I noticed that the bag was ripped and I really should have examined the printer before I signed for it.Anyway I just signed and took it in. When I took it out of the bag the box was squashed and ripped and even the invoice inside was ripped. I couple of bits of sellotape were on the outside to try and cover the rips in the outer bag. Anyway I set the printer up and fortunately it seems to work fine. I think I might pay for Express Delivery next time if that means the item is sent by a more reputable courier.Either that or Amazon needs to put these items in an outer cardboard box as well as being in the Canon box to give it strength. Obviously these items often have a very hard journey before they get to the customer.
You can't complain December 31, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had an HP printer for a year and i hated it so much i threw it away. This Canon printer is a totally different ballgame. The printer is quicker, quieter and more reliable that my previous printer. The software that comes with it is good too, all the functions are straight forward. We print off a lot of stuff for my sons schoolwork, this printer has been excellent. The price is cheap but the build quality is very good considering. Excuse the cliche' but this printer does what it says on the tin! Oh and the cable issue mentioned by others i'd ignore as what do you expect at this price, and anyway I saw Tesco's are selling USB cables for less than 3 yesterday.
