bog standard December 12, 2008 This webcam works with skype and damn all else. Which is fine, if you use a mac and all you want to do is use skype. No complaints, really. I couldn't find any webcam for mac that didn't cost the earth, and am using a mac without a webcam. You need to download the drivers but that takes about thirty seconds.
Useless October 20, 2008 I bought this a while back as it states it works on mac mini. It does, but it involves downloading external drivers that take a long time to find on your own, and even then it only works on one or two programs. None of these are skype. In fact, it is so non-compatible with skype that every time \i try to make a call with it plugged in, skype crashes. I sent skype all the details of what happened, including all of the code and terminal readings generated on my computer... and after well over a month or maybe even two... they haven't figured out why it won't work. Sounds like the cameras a waste of money to me.
Not a great buy for a Mac September 13, 2008 This is a cheap product and it feels it and the picture quality is bad and the software for it is absolutely minimal and only works for Skype. It won't work with all the other built in apps that use a webcam unless you purchase additional software.
Instead spend the extra and get a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Webcam, which gives a Hi-Def video quality, works with everything and needs no software, it works out of the box. Oh and the mic is excellent and is linked into a single USB connection to the Mac.
I am not sure when OS X included universal drivers for webcams but I am running 10.5 on both my Macs and they worked beautifully out of the box.
Okay Skype, nothing else though. August 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Picture is okay. Run on vista the software in the box didn't work. downloaded the driver from the website and it worked fine. Only in Skype though. All other video capture software refused to recognise it. I could record video but NOT sound on to my PC, either from the camera's built in mic or an aditional mic. Useless. Its cheap looking in the box and even cheaper in performance. Go elsewhere, please.
No Mac Mic March 27, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Works fine on a Mac (Mac OS 10.4.11) except that the microphone doesn't work. There's a note on Sogatel's website that says the microphone is not compatible with Macs.
Fortunately I don't want to use the microphone.
I got it up and running in a moment once I'd visited the Sogatel website and downloaded the drivers - there are no Mac drivers in the box but there's a leaflet telling you where to get them. Configuring it to run with Skype seemed simple - though you do need to quit the Skype application and restart it before it recognises there's a camera available.
