Does everything it should January 8, 2009 I wanted an all in one that printed photos and CD's as well, the Epson RX585 does that. The only criticism I have is the common one of expensive ink.
Epson put a chip in their cartridges which tells the printer when the cartridge is empty. The compatibles I tried didn't do this so while the printer wouldn't start a page when running out of ink on genuine cartridges the compatibles would print half a page then eject the page. This meant I was saving on ink and loosing on photo paper, you just can't win. So I've gone back to genuine cartridges. I even tried a continuous ink system and that wouldn't work either. Only other thing I would say is let the cartridge run all the way out, ignore the ink out warnings until the printer won't go any further, also try to change two or more cartridges at the same time, it will use less ink by charging only once.
Colour photo's up to A4 on high quality are very good, choose a lower quality and they are acceptable so that saves a bit of ink. I've never experienced banding that others complain about. Black and white has a slight colour cast even when choosing grey scale and still seems to use colour ink. You can't print B&W with any of the other cartridges being totally empty.
value for money great piece of kit some people dont have a clue January 6, 2009 yes wobbles a bit but (it does have moving parts) it prints absolutley perfect discs aswell as photos
Top Notch December 17, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had this All-in-One for the past year and am very pleased with the ease of use and quality of prints it produces.OK so genuine Epson ink is expensive, but it produces the best results and does not clog the nozzels like cheap compatibles either! If you take the trouble to read the instructions and set it up properly, the RX585 is a dream to use!The scanner is childs play too and allows you to scan and print without bothering to turn in your computer!
Excellent value & Superb quality December 12, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Now my last review on a printer was shocking. It wasn't much of a printer more of a burden on my very soul. When last year I started my final year at uni I felt I really had to replace the Epson Stylus Photo 830U I'd had for a mere year yet spent most of that time wanting to jump on it.. Naturally after my bad experience with one Epson I thought about going for a Canon and spent many hours trawling shops and websites and eventually, nearvously settled on the Epson Stylus Photo RX585 hoping I'd have something that would at least work!
I have to say I love my printer. The picture quality when notched up to produce photos on good quality paper is superb, the print time is good and individual inks make it a lot more cost effective to replace cartridges. The scanning and copying functions are also superb as I am an architect I need these to be relable to scan my survey drawings and reproduce them into presentations - this printer does it with ease. I test print all my drawings on this printer and the quality even on the finest of lines is superb.
Highly valued piece of equipment, I'd give away my drawing tablets before I'd part company with this little baby. Buy it. It shakes a bit but hey, don't we all at this time of the morning?
