5 out of 5 stars Top Class Camera!   December 8, 2008
I have just upgraded from a 4 mega pixel HP camera which i have had for 4 years and has been an excellent piece of kit! The Fuji S8000fd was delivered this weekend and i have spent the whole weekend taking pics. It's absolutely wonderful. I had looked at all the reviews (and i mean ALL of them) but I cannot really find a problem at all (to my untrained eye) for the price. I have tried manual and auto, in good light and in poor light, used the video mode, had fun with the zoom and played with many of the different functions and settings (all of which i have found easy to use). I admit that there are some problems with low light but isn't that the same for most cameras (in this price bracket) unless you use a tripod (which i have and it works very nicely). The people who have negative comments must be either professional, have very high standards or are just hyper-critical. I am looking forward to having some fun with it in the future and experimenting even more.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad   December 1, 2008
This camera seem to be perfect for me. After taking about 1000 pictures in different conditions I am quite pleased. Quality of pictures is not as high as you may expect, especially on auto, but it takes only few minutes to learn how to use rest of offered modes and you can always go to manual mode too. If you cannot get more from your compact (just like me) this camera is a good step towards SLR. But if you are not willing to do with your camera more than setting it to auto, that one is not for you.

5 out of 5 stars Best camera Ever!!   November 25, 2008

I guess not ever, but for a big 'compact' camera, it's great. The images are great quality, the night shots are especially good. However, make sure you have the camera on a tripod or a solid surface or they tend to blur but I guess thats just photography.
It's not too heavy which is good and the size means you can still slip it into your bag. It's a great camera for those who are just getting into photography or if you're like me, a poor student.

Love it!

4 out of 5 stars Good but not great   November 25, 2008
Having decided to move up from a compact to a bridge camera, I did my research and got plenty of contradictory opinions on this vs competitors. Given enough decent reviews (against some poor ones), the price, the usage of AA batteries, and SD cards, I decided to take the plunge.

Two intensive weeks of use in, it seems to be more than worth the money. There are downsides. Not all the pictures are sharp, the Auto mode is best soon left behind, and the printed manual is poor.

The upside... some great pictures, Image Stabilisation really works, great range of manual controls for those moving from a compact to learn on, good battery life. Light enough to carry everywhere, but solid enough to feel real in the hand.

I'd recommend it to anyone moving up from a compact on price and quality. But it isn't a digital SLR and won't give that level of quality.

3 out of 5 stars OK but over 200 iso or on Auto it's very poor   November 25, 2008

I found that I needed to use 100 iso or below to get a good picture & even then the quality was not so good, I have used Fuji before & was very disapointed with this one. The features are great it feels good in the hand & the zoom is amazing but all this is useless if it can't capture a good picture, which it can't unless you use P mode & set the iso to 64/100. Using auto indoors in low light & flash was very poor & my phone takes less grainy pictures than this one.

Very disapointed & was kindly refunded by Amazon.
