4 out of 5 stars Fantastic bit of kit   November 15, 2008
Fantastic bit of kit delivered quickly.

I fix computers for a living and this means I can pull a hard disk out of practically any desktop or laptop computer (PATA, SATA, 3.5 inch or 2.5 inch) or even an optical drive and plug it into another system to recover data almost instantly.

It is not intended as a permanent setup but that was never the intention.

As an instant recovery tool it is great.

Why 4 stars rather than 5? The supplied cable to convert power from a MOLEX to SATA type power connector is a bit flimsy (the molex pins are loose and look as though they will poke out eventually). It isn't a big deal and is easy to replace but it just lets the overall package down slightly.

For the price and the target audience this product can't be beaten!

The product worked for about 10 seconds and then blew! What a waste of money. I should have sent it back.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   October 26, 2008
320GB 2,5" WD Scorpio WD3200BEVT SATA 5400rpm 8MB

I had this device up and running in less than five minutes. Although no instructions were included, the connections were very easy to work out.

I connected a SATA laptop hard drive to it, and Windows XP spotted it right away.
I then connected an IDE desktop hard drive to it, and XP also spotted this drive right away as well. Although the Device Manager spotted it, "My Computer" never.

I altered the jumper on the hard drive, and it then appeared in "My Computer.

Straight forward, well made product. Transfer speed is excellent.

Regarding the comments about high postage costs. Look at the total cost of buying the device. It's really well priced, with the cost of the item reduced in proportion to the dictated high price of postage.

1 out of 5 stars Rubbish (product and Company)   October 9, 2008
Bought one of these and tried it with 3 IDE hard drives on 3 computers. Computer recognised something was plugged into USb but would not recognise drive. tried all jumper settings without success. Emailed Company 3 times and each time received automated reply saying query would be dealt with within 24 hours - Nothing. Will not deal with this Company againTeckNet VS408 USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable for 2.5-Inch/ 3.5-Inch / 5.25-Inch Drive With Power Adapter

5 out of 5 stars Very impressed with this product   August 1, 2008

Although there are many reviews praising this item, I would like to add my 5 stars to the rest for a simply terrific bit of a kit which does exactly what it says on the tin. Straight out of the box, plug in the power lead, attach to the PC (it's virtually fool-proof, no instructions needed) and it's immediately recognised as an external drive on WinXP. And despite the comments about postage cost, you can't really complain that the whole deal comes to less than a tenner. Finally, although it said that the delivery date would be over a week/10 days away, it arrived within 3 days from ordering - fantastic service from TeckNet.
