Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500GB External Hard Drive EU & UK 3,5" 7200RPM 8MB USB2.0
I've been using this hard drive for a couple of months now.
It was really easy to set up and install, and only took about 10 minutes before I was backing up my desktop & laptop PCs. I was quite happy with the transfer speed given it was through a USB2 connection.
It looks good, with a warm glow coming off it when powered up. Powers down after a period of inactivity, but responds quickly when it's required again. No on/off switch, but I dont find that an issue. Good size, not to high or wide, and fits in to one side of my desktop monitor without looking out of place.
Very well priced on Amazon, and it's worth the investment given the protection it provides when disaster strikes on your main PC.
I've read some of the reviews, which did not rate this product very favourably, which surprised me. Over many years of using computers, I have always used Seagate or Maxtor hard drives without any major problems.
I dont have any reason to think this external hard drive will be any different
Good kit got better. September 16, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just bought this and am well pleased. What's been changed? The power supply has been changed so that now you slide on whichever adaptor you require(see customer photos). You get a more robust arangement that's no wider than a normal plug. Will leave a reliability edit in the future.

Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 500GB External Hard Drive EU & UK 3,5" 7200RPM 8MB USB2.0
Had this product 3 months, easy install, runs quiet, easy transfer of data with good speed. Already have recommended to friends who have purchased and are happy.
6 Weeks in going strong September 4, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Purchased 6 weeks ago to backup up movies and files from my PC ,works quickly and smoothly with absolutely no problems virtually silent too! Sleeps when my PC sleeps and wakes together so I cannot fault at the moment.
JUNK - do NOT buy! September 4, 2008 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
Read the other reviews, check the web - because many, many people are finding this drive unreliable. This drive failed quickly - only used twice! It will not be recognised and simply sits there beeping. It powers/lights up and has not been moved from first use, so I have not misused and I have always disconnected properly. I am not prepared to send all my personal data anywhere at all, so the 5 year warranty is worthless in that respect - against a 55 loss would you let all your confidential information go on a trip somewhere? A class action against Seagate might be a way of ensuring they remove this piece of junk from the market place -they should be ashamed. 1 star only because I coldn't give it ZERO! A truly appalling device with no redeeming features - check the reviews on Google and even Seagate's own Technical forums - I'm not alone in this opinion...
