Still working great. November 21, 2008 I've had this camera for about a year now and it withstood a lot of situations. I have the basic manual controls and the images are of good quality. I am not reviewing this model here to be honest, as there are loads of camera reviews on the internet, that's why we have Google. I am not an amateur neither a pro, I use the manual mode as much as the auto mode and this camera works well. Don't expect miracles, though. If you want pro quality, then buy a DSLR and you will be happy, because although you have the option to use adapters on this camera, it's not the same as switching the whole lens set as you can do on a DSLR. Canons are Canons and overall, it's a good brand that makes good products. The camera is kind of bulky at this day compared to the newest models, but obviously no one can complain as this model is, I guess 2~3 years old now.
Brilliant for the money! June 20, 2008 I used a Powershot A40 from 2003 until last year which was always superb. I then bought a Lumix FX50 ( 200 ) because it has a Leica lens and was small enough to fit in a pocket. Guess what? It was nowhere near as good quality as the old 2Mp Canon. Just bought this and It's a lot of camera for the money. If I adjust it down to 2Mp it's still comparable to the Lumix!Plus it doesn't suffer mad fits of colour saturation on flash photos like the Lumix did. It may be a little chunky for a pocket, but if you prefer some control over your photos as apposed to "point and shoot" this will take some beating!
Excellent camera June 14, 2008 Im delighted with this camera. I bought 2700Ma aa batteries and with those it seems like I never need to change them. Picture quality great. Boots up in a second or so. Recommend highly.
Faulty Camera - Poor Canon Customer sevice June 7, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought a Canon Powershot A570is as a christmas present for my daughter in 2008 - I bought this because I thought Canon were a good make with a good reputation. The camera worked fine for just 4 months when it stopped working showing a 'Lens Error'. I contacted Canon (via the only phone number they publish) and was told to send it to their repairers (Mistake number 1 - I should have returned it to Amazon). I was then astounded to told that the repair was not covered under warranty because the fault was corrosion on the internal PCB - they suggested that the camera had been used in a humid atmosphere or had been exposed to liquid, neither of which was true - it had only been used 'normally' and my only thought was could it have been condensation from being outside in the cold then inside in the warm (externally the camera was, and still is, in pristine condition). Canon do admit that the camera is not fully sealed. I tried to complain about the situation to Canon, but the only access is via their service centre. They refused to give me ANY contact details for the complaints branch initially. I tried to send them emails via the Canon website but when I checked they claimed nothing had been received???. They sent me 'special' emails which supposedly allowed me to reply or add comments - when sent these said I would receive an acknowledgement within an hour and a reply within 3 days - no acknowledement was sent an no reply was ever made. Canon have a target of 5 working days to deal with a complain so when I had no response after first 5, then 10, working days I had to ring the service centre again (all these call on an expensive 08705 number). On the last occasion after persisting I was given a contact telephone number for the complants department - this was the wrong number but it did lead me to the correct number (both national calls!). The complaints department twice failed to call me within agreed time scales. They continually refused to honour their warrantry as the alleged cause of the fault was corrosion and they dismissed all my pleas that the camera had only been used normally. Canon did however reduce the repair cost from over 90 to 50 (for a 100 camera!)which I had to acept as my daughter wanted a camera and she could not afford to buy a new one. Overall I am unhappy that a new camera will only last 4 months of 'normal use and disillusioned ion respect of customer service provided by Canon. I found out the address for to Canon and sent them a written complaint but I just got fobbed off.
Superb first camera June 4, 2008 I purchased one of these little beauties to replace my wifes Fuji Finepix that had started to play up. Sam isn't really very good with cameras, and she finds my Canon a little complicated to use. She started using this one straight out of the box, and the picture quality is superb. She especially likes the large LCD viewing screen, and the face detection makes setting up a photo a breeze. We have recently returned from a touring holiday in Scotland and I have to be honest...I was using the 570 more than my own camera as it fits so easily into your pocket. A great camera, superb picture quality, easy to use and carry....what more could you want?
