5 out of 5 stars After much deliberation, I'm glad I chose this one   January 5, 2009
Like a lot of other reviewers, I spent a long time comparing the market for iPod Touch 2nd Gen docking systems for performance versus cost. I wanted an excellent quality sound that woud impress without paying serious HiFi money. I'd looked at Bose, Klipsch, Gear4, Altec Lansing iM7, Intempo, Griffin and Roberts Radio. I'd tried the Bose and the Altec and whilst the sound was good, it was not great and the units themselves were a little cheap looking. In the end it came to a toss-up between the 200 Roberts Sound 43 (that had DAB and CD) and the 80 Griffin Amplifi 2.1. I decided that, for the location where I wanted the player, I only needed an iPod player, so went for the Griffin. Sendercity (through Amazon) delivered perfectly and the Griffin was very easy to set up so I was playing tracks immediately. With the unit comes a variety of docking adaptors, a long power supply cable, and a discreet remote control unit. The first track I played was Brothers In Arms (not cool I know, but a good acoustic test) and the sound quality was amazing - no distortion on very high volume, crisp and accurate. A couple of tweaks with the Touch's EQ settings and I am extemely happy with the sound output across the range. Friends cannot believe that such a sturdy (it's all metal), attractive, well built music player only costs 80. The only slight disappointment was that the Touch is not charged whilst docked, but that is only a slight, small matter in the face of the relief that the sound is such good quality.

Roberts announced that the Sound 43 was to be superceded by the Sound 53 (which looks stunning) so I'm going to buy one of those for all my DAB/FM/CD/USB/iPod needs in another room!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing bit of kit !!!!!!   December 31, 2008
1st of all i ordered this yesturday(30th)and got it today(31st).well.... what can i say whats not been said before..ive spent many hours looking and reading reviews on more expensive stations but i can honestly say im so glad i didnt buy and pay in one case 3 times as much!!!because this sounds amazing for such a small unit for all types of music and plenty loud enough to fill any room.Honestly i cant stop smiling ,to think i was gonna pay so much more :)the only small negative i got is ,you need to be directly infront and close to the unit for the remote to work but hey!! you need to anyways to see what track you want to play next !!Dont think twice like i did ..buy! buy! buy! you wont be disappointed trust me

5 out of 5 stars What a bargain!!!   December 3, 2008

I bought this for my Brother as an xmas gift, i spent ages researching Ipod speakers, as i wanted GOOD sound and the facility to charge the ipod as well. I decided on this after reading its reviews.. Well OMG!!!!! It is Brilliant!!!!. Im not a musical sound boff so my explaination is as follows: If you want a great looking speaker (Made of solid wood not plastic) that has good BASE sounds as well as crystal clear voices (It has a base speaker fitted underneath) BUY THIS!. Especially if you love Floorfillers, the VOLUME IS GREAT to, its easily loud enough to fill a room .It comes with several connectors for all the ipods, although ive tried 3 different ipods and they all work in the top dock connector already fitted.
( Classic, Touch - 1st gen and 30 gig) It also has different plug adapters for taking abroad. (It doesnt take batteries) I have a speaker which sounds so tinney and it cost around the same price, so i am now going back to eoutlet (Who incidentally are very proffesional, i recieved my Griffin in a couple of days) TO BUY MYSELF ONE! ...TOP MARKS ...Im a very happy Bunny... UPDATED 29th December 08..Have now bought another from Amazon, equally as good service. and fab price as Argos are selling for 120.00.. I cannot rate this product highly enough..If you love your ipod you have to buy it this!

1 out of 5 stars Had To Be Returned   November 21, 2008

This otherwise great product had a fatal flaw in that the volume control did not work properly. It worked fine at higher volumes but as the sound level approached a medium low level it cut off abruptly, no matter how carefully one adjusted the control knob. As a domestic amplifier the lack of lower volume levels renders it useless so it was returned immediately.

3 out of 5 stars Sadly a little dissapointed   November 17, 2008

I bought this item mainly because of other customers reviews.
I didn't want a 'plastic' box so upon receiving this solid wooden box I was initially impressed and it was a nice looking unit once switched on.
Running the unit off an adapter was bearable but would rather have the PSU in the unit to make things easier.
The main problem is the sound dispersion. I have recently moved the location of the unit and have found it has an incredibly small listening angle, the treble becomes too dull and the bass, which was previously clear and punchy, becomes suprisingly muffled. If you're not sat in front of the unit then it's not worth having to be honest. I wanted a quick and easy method of providing background music but find this unit a let down.
To compare this unit to the likes of Bose is a bit of a joke. If I had heard this unit in its current position I would have returned it pretty quickly. The auxillary lead also breaking was another small niggle.
Overall a bit of a let down
