4 out of 5 stars good speaker - but would pay 100 quid for them   September 18, 2008
i got these free with my NWZ-A800 which was a nice surprise. Was planning on selling them straight away until i plugged them in to see what they re like. They look really good and feel solid as all sony stuff does (really recomend NWz-A800 btw).
Docking unit is great but can only skip for/back and volume not thats ok. its charges which is great.
now the sound...
for bassy dance music stuff theyre really good for speaker that size (though think would suffer in a big room) not as good as a hi-fi but theyre coming to uni with me (hifi to big).
however just been playing some lighter pop stuff (vampire weekend if you want to know) and they didnt sound great even at mid-volume.
but for most of my music theyre really good, was so surprised for a speaker that size+they look great.
would i pay 100 pounds for them? No
50 pounds maybe... but then im a tight git.
if you wjust want speakers...go logitech
if you want a great looking docking unit to play bit of music in room, kitchen etc and youve got enough money - good option

5 out of 5 stars Put simply, a must buy.   August 14, 2008
I bought this system to go with my recently bought NWZ-A818 mp3 player and I must say, this is better than my old sony hifi system. It took me about 5 mins to set it up from taking it out of the box!

The only gripe I have is that you can't scroll through the albums using the remote, apart from that, it's a good quality sound system worth every penny.

2 out of 5 stars Sony SRSNWZ10 Charging Cradle used with NWZ-A818   December 31, 2007

I too got this kit free with my Sony MP3 player which was a welcome bonus.
However, there a couple of things I've noticed when using it with my NWZ-818 MP3 player, namely:

1. The sound level seems to fluctuate, more noticeable when being driven at higher volumes but certainly present at lower volume levels also. This is present on playback when the MP3 player is placed in the charging cradle. However, I noticed this is not the case if the MP3 player is connected to the cradle instead via its headphone jack pointing to some kind of signal level issue when taking the digital audio output from the MP3 player's WM-PORT.

2. Sound level fluctuations aside, the sound quality is respectable for such a system, but is nowhere near as rich and full as the Logitec X-230 system I use with my PC which benefits from a separate sub-woofer and retailed for half the price of the Sony unit.

So, for a free unit it's adequate but I will continue to play music from my MP3 player through my Hi-Fi when wanting sound in my bedroom or elsewhere!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Speakers   November 26, 2007

I got these speakers to go with my NWZ-A818 player (yes this model is compatible with the speakers). I mainly got them because of the speaker offer, and the fact that the NWZA818 doesnt come with a mains adapter (only a usb one), and placing the player in the cradle charges it at the same time. I wasnt expecting much from the speakers, boy was I surprised.

The speakers themselves are fairly small, and very sturdy build (that oozes quality), and ok while you wont be chucking away your stackable hi-fi, it definately blows away the competition (any speakers of the same or similar size). I have a creative 5.1 speaker set paired with a decent pci sound card on my pc which I thought would trounce the sony; was I wrong! And you dont have to be an audiophile to notice the difference either! If your plugging in your NWZ A818 or similar mp3 player into this, you will not be dissapointed.

Its a pity for the price the speakers couldnt be wireless/bluetooth, as you do get a tangle of wires, but with careful placement you can tie up loose ends up and tuck them away. I still get friends that cant believe Im not playing the music through the hi fi and that it really is coming out of the tiny NWZA818 playing through these speakers.

Remote hardly has any buttons on it, but was easily transfered to our universal remote control. Volume level was very good too. Putting the player on, turns a small red light on in the cardle, as does pausing, and these functions can also be performed directly from the cradle, via buttons, that actually look like its part of the silver trim (i only noticed they were there at all because of the lights!); nice touch Sony.

The cradle also has input socket so you could use any device to play through the speakers, with the right connection (input socket looks like a normal 3.5mm audio jack like the ones you plug your headphones into.

Overall a bit on the pricey side in my opinion, but you definately get what you pay for in this case.

4 out of 5 stars Ideal Walkman partner   November 13, 2007

I got these items free with the Walkman so from that point of view its an absolute bargain.
The sounds is very good but its more an ample bedroom hi-fi that your lounge one. Everythng is well made and to Sony's usual high quality. Very handy for charging the Walkman, just drop it in the cradle, remote is nice and small but like other reviewers have commented on the fact you can't browse through the albums is a slight annoyance.
If your getting this free with the Walkman its awesome, if your looking to buy seperately I'd say still worth it for smaller rooms or for a bookshelf hi-fi. Its got decent sound with a fair volume and its a dead easy way to charge your Walkman and listen to the music without the headphones.
