Sony MDR-EX90s November 17, 2008 With a genuine pair (there are lot's of fakes around) these earphones are absolutley superb. I also own a pair of 'top of the range' SE530s Shure earphones costing over 200+, these Sony MDR-EX90s are almost as good, in fact, the bass sounds deeper and more realistic with the Sonys. Truly, a superb set of earphones.
This is worst headphone that sony ever made October 27, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this headphones for my sony new mp3 player , but i am not happy with the performance , the bass production is worst and even other sounds is worst and not good i strongly not recommending this headphone.
Look Great Sound Good For the Price September 10, 2008 I Brought these headphones twice and thought they were great they each lasted me a long time, but i love my music and i am always looking for something to enhance my experience so i purchased some Shure E4Cs as there was a pair available on here for the same price and they simply blow these out of the water, i want some se530s now. Anyway I digress, If your budget is up to 70, they are probably the best you will get, they sound good if you have your EQ set right, and you are using a good bit rate (which you should always do if you don't want to lose any quality). These headphones are light, compact, they look great, but when you step back down to them after listening to a high end headphone, you realize that the sounds seems to lack presence, i found i had to listen to them lot loader to get the ambience of the music, but then they began to sound a little tiny. You get a lot of high tones that you wouldn't get if you had cheaper headphones, and the bass is fairly accurate for the price to. The vocals are relatively good, and they should be as these headphones were designed for that reason, they are midrange headphones, meant for more professional use, but if you are a musician, or a professional looking for quality, increase your budget and look at some shures, get the right fit and you will never look back and if you do you will be disappointed with anything else! These Headphones are good for the price, but considering the audience they are aimed at, ie. musician, and other music professionals, i am sorry they are just above average, in all areas and like me you will soon be looking for better.
Muddy sound... September 6, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought these thinking that the higher price compared to my old seinheisser cx300 would mean better sound quality. How wrong could I be! These are awful! I really cant over-state how bad these headphones are. Very muddy sound, like listening to a bad radio station with cotton wool in your ears. Very disappointed compared to my old headphones. So what have I done? Gone and bought a new pair of cx300s. I can't reccommend these enough. Dont think twice about these, get the cx300.
Superb, well balanced earbuds. August 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I also own:
A pair of MDR EX85LP which are slightly bass heavy until you crank up the volume, then the mid-range cuts in. They are very detailed.
A pair of cheap "MDR EX90LP" from a non-Amazon seller. These look identical to the Amazon supplied units, although they came in a blister pack. There are a couple of differences however; the earbuds do not fit the carrier well - they get a little stuck - and the sound is compressed and "muffled" or "confused". They cost 12 and I guess you get what you pay for at that price, I got a fake.
Now I also own a pair of these Amazon supplied MDR EX90LP at roughly 50.
These Amazon supplied MDR EX90LP are supremely detailed. The bass isn't as heavy as the EX85LP. In back to back listening its even perhaps a little light. However it extends a tad deeper. Overall its a more balanced sound.
Unlike the 85LP There's no need to raise the volume to get the mid-range to cut in because the mid-range is there all the time.
Initially I thought the 90LP sounded a little bright, but a few minutes of listening had them settling down. Like any new speakers or 'phones they benefit from being used for a while before the real sound appears.
My verdict is that these are some of the best earbuds that I have ever heard.
My warning to all of you is to avoid the cheapest sellers, as you'll only regret it later. Buy the real units, not the fakes, and you won't have any problems. The offer price is a big hint about the origin of the units.
If you did buy some 90LP units and they sound compressed and muffled, you simply haven't got genuine Sony drive units in those pretty casings.
