1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY   December 15, 2008
I have had this charger for a while now most of my batteries stop working it ruins batteries and the other problem is the bottom of all my batteries damaged as when you take the batteries out, it is so tight that it starts to peel off the coating of the battery after a while.

5 out of 5 stars Quality   November 7, 2008
I purchased a UniRoss Sprint charger to replace an old a much slower one. The difference is substantial. These chargers will charge a pair of AA batteries in around 15 minutes, and after that they automatically trickle charge the batteries for a further period until you remove the batteries. There is also automatic bad cell detection, and automatic charge cut off once the batteries reach capacity. Each slot can be used individually so a single battery can be charged by itself, and two batteries at different charge levels can be correctly charged together, with the charger automatically cutting off the batteries as needed rather than at the same time. Each slot has its own individual LED which flashes at varying rates to indicate the progress of the battery charging.

I have successfully used this model with both AA and AAA nickel metal hydride batteries, including the low self discharge ones like Sanyo eneloop.

The only slight disadvantage with this model is that it includes an active fan to call the batteries, as this is necessary due to the high charge rate. The fan is a little bit noisy, but for the speed of the charger this is a marginal inconvenience. It is definitely worth the extra expense of a faster charger with automatic cut-off and bad cell detection than is the saving of a few pounds by purchasing an older slower model.

3 out of 5 stars Ruins batteries   October 31, 2008
I have had this charger for a while now and though it may charge really quickly which is brilliant, it ruins batteries.

I have had the bottom of all my batteries damaged as when you take the batteries out, it is so tight that it starts to peel off the coating of the battery after a while.

I have also had a few batteries stop charging in this charger after a couple of charges so when I use my old charger, they charge just fine.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   July 12, 2007

Someone complained this item was noisy, I cannot imagine how anyone could think that unless they put it on a hollow unstable surface, it is almost silent and charges batteries very quickly, exactly what I expected and at a very competitive price.
Also the description states that you get 4x 2100 mAh batteries, I actually got SIX x 2300 mAh batteries, not everyday you can say that you got more than you paid for! delivered fast too, so would recommend to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars A great buy   May 18, 2007

This Uniross rechargeable-battery charger is a great deal. It charges batteries (AA Ni-Mh or AAA Ni-Mh) fast, includes a car adaptor and includes 4 x 2300mAh batteries - all for a good price.

Batteries are charged fully within an hour, or given a quick charge in about 15min. One nice feature is the long power cord - it gives you freedom to put the charger somewhere convenient. Also impressive is the red Uniross logo on the charger that glows when batteries are being charged. 1, 2, 3 or 4 batteries can be charged simultaneously; as long as they are all the same type. A flashing indicator below each compartment flashes rapidly to indicate initial fast charge, then slower for maintenance charge (full charge). It stays lit to indicate fully charged.

The fan, although complained about below, is not too loud. The batteries do get very warm with the large charging current, and the fan works well to keep them a safe temperature, becoming faster/slower when required. You can also tell when the charge is finished, because the fan stops. However, I find it a little annoying that the air is permeated by a hot 'new plastic' smell by the action of the fan. This is probably only a 'new' thing and might get less after each charge.

The other annoyance I have relates to the negative terminal. The batteries are held tightly, and the AA batteries get caught on the negative terminal, resulting in the battery cover being torn at the bottom of the battery. This is a bad design, albeit a minor error.

Despite the minor faults, I would recommend this battery charger. It is a good quality, fast and portable charger - I am glad I bought it.
