Clarity is brilliant...
Thank you Sennheiser

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good   November 21, 2008

The sound quality is pretty good but not hi-fi standard , then again most don't know what hi-fi quality is .

I am into the hi-fi standard myself but the fact you are free to move around without a wired set of phones works for me .

You do get some hiss between tracks witch is a down point but on the whole very comfortable to wear and worth the price good kit.

4 out of 5 stars sennheiser rs 140 wireless balanced headphones   October 22, 2008

well, after reading other reviews, i decided to buy a set of rs 140's. i received the headphones this morning. they are nice to wear. easy to set up and charge. the only downside is the lack of bass and high treble, i also own a set of bose in ear head phones, so going from the deep bass on them to the high treble of these did my head in. mine are connected to my lap top, so after changing my default player to real player, and turning the treble and mid tones right down, and the bass right up, they sound a lot better now.
i haven't heard any interferance and the hiss which you get with all wireless headphones is only slighly noticeable when the song has finished.
I paid 90 for mine, anymore and i would of been disapointed, i would of sent them back if i'd of paid 150 which some sites and stores are asking for these

5 out of 5 stars Flexible (almost unbreakable) headset, great sound!   October 2, 2008

After one and a half years of daily use I am still enjoying them as day one. I haven't changed the battery yet. I find this product an essential for watching TV and movies on my PC without disturbing the neighbors. I am very selective about my sound products and I consider myself having a good pitch, although I am not a professional sound engineer. Therefore I stand by the quote:"if you like the sound then it's good enough". I have a range of headphones from Sennheiser and AKG and I have not a single complain to make about the sound quality of RS 140.

I have read other reviewers complaining about the "analogue and FM" transmit. Analogue to digital, and back, to analogue conversation are expensive and not always necessary in "real time" situations. Error correction works fine in analogue in this headset, along with sound source "locking". If you need to find a clear frequency there are three available. Unless you are really unlucky there must be at least one clear.

I like this headset as I use it at nights when I fall asleep watching movies. I wake up in the morning finding the headset thrown to the floor or squashed between the wall and the bed. That's a pretty hard resistance test and they are passing it.

Cons:
The only think I dislike is the balance dial, placed next to the volume dial, with the exact same size as the latter. Balance on headphones is meant for people with hearing impairment. From one point of view is good that Sennheiser had considered people with disabilities in this design but on the other it sometimes makes me think that it was targeted explicitly for older people with hearing disabilities and little interest in exceptional sound clarity, which is not true for their sound quality.

Also I tend to forget that initially I found them a bit big, uncomfortable and tight something my friends remind me when they try them at my place. I believe it's something that gets unnoticed after a while.

4 out of 5 stars Cordless freedom, cordless limitations   September 26, 2008

I don't actually own the Sennheiser RS 140, but have some experience of cordless 'phones that I'd like to share.

If you wish to buy cordless 'phones, you have to consider their unavoidable limitations. Most cordless 'phones use FM technology. This means that the signal can falter due to distance and obstacles, that they can pick up interference, and that their dynamic range will be limited - just as with an ordinary radio.

I am reasonalby satisified with the AKG K 940 that I have. I keep the transmitter in my basement, where I can use CD, LP, radio and TV as source. I can listen anywhere in my house and small garden, e.g. lying on my bed on the second floor or weeding the flower beds. Sometimes the signal will falter, but usually I only need to move my head a little to fix the problem. If I move the transmitter to the ground floor I can walk some 50 yards away from the house without losing the signal (if I should ever get the silly notion that I needed to hear music standing outside a neighbour's house).

I bought the AKG because I like classical music and wanted the best possible sound quality. The tests I've seen rate these 'phones slightly higher on sound quality than the Sennheiser RS 130 and 140. At the same time, the AKG are considerably more expensive.

My advice, if you are considering cordless 'phones, is to think carefully about what you want them for. Do you want them primarily for watching TV without disturbing others? Then I would say go for the Sennheisers. The RS 130 has a virtual surround feature and the RS 140 features enhanced speech reproduction. (Some reviews of the Sennheisers complain about their annoying indicator beeps, but these can be shut off - just read the user instructions which are available also as PDF files!)

If you want to listen to recorded music and radio anywhere in the house, even, say, while vacuuming, the AKG's will by all accounts give you the best sound of all cordless FM headphones. But if you listen only to recorded music and don't mind the hassle of copying it to a media player (Ipod or similar), then that option will give you better portable sound at a lower price.

If you read through the many reviews of Sennheiser cordless 'phones here on Amazon, you will find other inventive uses for them. But a final word of caution to hifi enthusiasts will be in order: you will NEVER get hifi sound from cordless FM 'phones. The transmission technology is simply too limited. Even with perfect transmission conditions, the sound will be a bit dull and the dynamic range compressed (i.e. loud sounds will be reduced in volume and soft sounds boosted). This is not something you notice if you use them in order to listen to TV or radio, because that's how those devices always sound, but if you use them to listen to a Bruckner symphony on your hifi stereo you will DEFINITELY notice. You can get ordinary headphones with a cord for 30 that will surpass any cordless FM 'phones in sound quality.
