5 out of 5 stars Gamin connection to Vista PC   November 19, 2008
Upgraded to a new PC - came with Vista and none of the attached devices that I've had running just fine with XP work any more. That's progress I guess. Most irritatingly, the drivers for the serial-USB link to my Garmin Foretrex 201 would not install with Vista - grrrr.

Anyway, quick search on the web, came across this converter, and it works just fine. Connection dropped out apparently due to data errors a couple of times which I've not seen with my previous converter into XP, but I'm up and running again at a very reasonable cost indeed.

I needed a serial connection for configuring Cisco devices. I found both my my laptop and PC didn't have a serial port. Oh did I mention they have vista installed, I discovered no hyperterminal :(

Anyway after trying a number of cables this one worked like a breeze.
All I had to do was plug this cable in, windows found the drivers and bam, I have a com port!

This lovely little gadget worked straight out of the box. Installation was amazingly straightforward and my serial port barcode reader was up and running inside five minutes. Quick delivery, too. Recommended.

Plugged it into my Vista notebook and although the instructions said to point to the supplied CD when asked for a driver vista found the driver via windows update automatically and it started working straight away.
You probably only need the CD if you dont have an internet connection the first time you plug it in.

Bought whizzy new PC (Dell with Vista) - but oh dear, no RS232 port for my faithful old Garmin hand-held GPS. Bought this little cracker, sets up a treat and immediately appears as 'COM 3' in the device manager.

I guarantee you won't tell the difference between this and a 'real' serial port, at the expense of using up another USB socket of course.

Great little product!
