2 out of 5 stars New Version Has Problems   January 20, 2007

I previously had the older version of this mouse - with a hinged receiver, like the one pictured - and it worked very well for about 6 months. After that the receiver became faulty; often switching itself off or being unrecognised by the OS.

Because I liked the mouse so much, I decided to get a new one and I was pleased to see that the new one had an unhinged receiver - as I suspect the hinge was the weakness in the old version. Unfortunately, the new mouse doesn't perform anywhere near as well as the old one did before it broke. The communications between the mouse and the receiver is so poor, I've had to use a USB extension cable & tape the receiver to the side of the monitor! Worse still: the mouse suffers from drifting to the left of its own accord, making it barely usable for precision work.

Maybe I've just got a dodgy one, but if this is an example of Microsoft's quality, I'm not very impressed. I will be looking elsewhere for my next replacement.

5 out of 5 stars great mouse - stupid owner!   September 11, 2006

ok i confess i was baffled for 5mins (ok maybe longer) as to why this mouse would not work. after much swearing and considering smashing it to pieces i realised that i was at fault and the solution was to use a mouse pad on my glass top coffee table...DOH!

it has now been working fault free for over 7 months, havent changed the battery yet, no problems with range. comfy and compact, great product.

2 out of 5 stars Too temperamental ...   August 8, 2006

After having read the reviews I thought this product might just be the wireless optical mouse that I was looking for; however after only owning this product for not quite 2mths I would seriously question a) the battery life and b) the actual functionality of it.

To say that it is prone to damage is an understatement. After having used this product without any issues for the last 1.5mths it is now starting to stick even though appears to be working (the green light indicator on the USB stick is still on) but the pointer does not actually move. Taking out the product and re-inserting then causes my laptop to actually not recognise it and state that the hardware failed. This also occurs after taking out the stick from the USB and re-starting the laptop as well - no instant recognition guarantee.

Please think carefully before buying this product!

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use, perfect for a notebook   December 11, 2005

This is great for notebooks, especially folk who are on the go. Concerned about compatability?... it'll certainly work fine with Windows XP. Concerned about battery life?... so far so good and the USB dongle snaps in easily to the mouse itself when not in use, which also cuts the power to the mouse.

Only criticism is the USB transeiver dongle which sticks out around 5cm from your USB port and might be prone to damage. But all in all it's a very well designed MS product that does what it says it will.

5 out of 5 stars Works fine with Dell Inspiron 9300   November 9, 2005

Another reviewer complained about incompatibility. I'm right handed and have the USB transceiver in the left hand USB port. The mouse works perfectly. The transceiver rotates by up to 270 degress on its axis so can sit up at 90 degrees to the keyboard. However it works fine flush. Exellent product good price.
