Product Description The Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect Wireless-G, Wireless-B, and other performance-enhanced SpeedBooster devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The Wireless-G Broadband Router...

Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster 802.11g January 2, 2009 I've been using the Linksys WRT54GS for a number of years and must say it is an excellent wireless router. Make sure you update to the latest firmware as earlier versions did suffer from the wireless signal dropping out. Setup is a breeze and it has an option to only allow management from a Lan attached device which gives additional security. Overall a good stable and reliable router.
It's alright for a wireless router! November 23, 2008 I recently bought a Dell Studio 17 Laptop and i wanted to share my high-speed broadband connection with both my desktop pc and laptop so i bought this Linksys WRT54GS. it took me less than 5 minutes to set up everything and i was up and running in no time. After a couple of days of usage i began to realize that my connection kept dropping and every time it did, i basically lost my internet connection on both my pc and laptop. After chaging some stuff on the menu page and reconnecting all the wires correctly it worked perfectly fine.
I've owned this wireless router for about 8 weeks now and once in a while the connection drops and i just reset my modem and restart my computer and that fixes everything. One thing i wanted to mention is that, it you want to buy this product... please don't spent more than 45 because that's how much i spend on this product.
Overall it's a good broadband router, i get really good speeds +54mbps and the signal is always strong in my house, i give it a rating of 3 out of 5.
Worldclass Customer Support for the novice July 17, 2008 My wife, who is a complete computer novice, had Virgin Media Cable Broadband setup whilst I was out of the country on business. The technician from Virgin Media was very helpful and advised my wife to buy this Linksys wireless router plus a USB adapter for the desktop PC upstairs that is unable to detect a wireless network, unlike our laptops that can. This meant that the technician did not have to stapple an ugly cable all the way upstairs. (Virgin Media technicians are not allowed to drill through walls, but I suppose you could get them to run the cable and then get out the BlacknDecker when they've gone.) Anyway, installing the Wireless router was a daunting prospect for my wife, when she opened the box and found the disc and instructions... so she called me. Within minutes I had read the reviews on this site and knew the solution - phone the Linksys Customer support and let them help you through the process step by step. My wife later sent me a very cheerful email and described herself as a very happy bunny. She said the guys from Linksys customer support were 'fantastic'. They helped her for over an hour to install the router and then get all our machines connected to the wireless network. She said they were incredibly patient with her. They used cloning for the security as well and helped her secure the network. One of my daughters told me that she could see 14 other wireless networks from her laptop, so it is definitely worth securing yours with a password. I hope Linksys do something to help their customers in the Irish Republic, because the featured negative review on this site gives an inaccurate description of Linksys Customer Support for the UK. So, buy this product with confidence, not just because it is a good and reliable product, but because it comes as a package with worldclass customer support.
The worst router imaginable July 6, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this router in March, and it has never worked properly. From the very first day of usage, set-up screens would only load partially and several 'reload's were necessary, buttons clicked would not register, settings would disappear. This got increasingly worse. I then decided to download the new firmware, and install that, and from that moment every set-up screen became blank: no data on it AT ALL, so changing the settings is impossible. After about a 100 attempts to correct this, I've given up; I'm not even going to send it back, I will bin it and buy a real router.
The router works, by the way: I need to reboot it only five times a day, and there is no protection on it (I can't set it!), so the whole neighbourhood uses my internet connection, but hey!, who cares.
Do yourself a favour, buy something else.
Poor product quality June 16, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
purchased this router as a replacement for my long standing B series Linksys router which has a power supply that gets hot. I was also looking to use the firewall feature to limit kids access to the internet late at night and during exam time. Rather than replace the power supplly it appeared to make sense to upgrade to the latest Linksys G series with speedbooster. Previously I had purchased a WRT54GS for a friend and it had worked okay. This should have been a simple replacement, however as much as I try I cannot get the router to be stable in any sense and I am on my 4th attempt at trying to understand what the problem is. Even with the reset settings button pressed and open internet access some hours later the router just stops working meaning I have to revert back to my old Linksys B series. Which is wht I am using now. For the few hours when the wireless router was working I also did some tests against my B series router with two laptops against pcpitstop measuring upload/ download and RTT. I wont go into all the details but essentially on the high spec laptops there was absolutely no noticeable difference. Some cases there was a marginal drop in performance. I use Cisco kit at work and so have an impression of data centre quality when it comes to Cisco kit. This product has tainted my view. Also its not clear how you contact support or send the thing back. I will probably just destroy it and post on youtube as my replacement wireless G router. This will be some compensation for the time spent with this thing
