5 out of 5 stars LET THERE BE RAWWWK!!!   October 1, 2008

Sennheiser... I hate you.
I hate you.
I hate you.
Why?
Because nothing in my life can ever compare, or be as good, as that moment i first listened to my beloved AC/DC through these 'cans'.
Or Maiden, Lizzy, Metallica etc...
My 34 years...my life, now and forever, have.... peaked.
Sniff... quite sad really.
I believed I had led quite a life fulfilled thus far.
I was WRONG.
VERY, VERY WRONG INDEED!
Some say they see happiness and love in the eyes of their children, others see it in each sunrise, when mother nature paints the heavens in beautiful shades of red and crimson, to awaken us from our slumber and dreams, whilst other folk are ecstatic at god's own house, praying for all our sins and wishing us all good health and a passport through the pearly gates come judgement day.
FOOLS!
These are the losers without sennheiser HD595's!!!
Well I've got a set, and I'll tell you, 'Perfection Incarnate' is how they need be described, yeah... simple as.
I've bought loads of headphones, some good, some not so. i love music, but the 595's love music more. I've tried a vast variation of genres, and the 595's spank 'em all.
They have such respect for each and every instument , voice, effect etc. They can be as brutal as a kick in the bajoingazz, and as delicate as, er... snow, or something... how about '..a snowflake on a
rose petal?' No? well you do better then, see if i care!
Anyway...yeah, here's something that needs to be cleared up, as I did not pick up on it the 595's are attached to a 3m cable, that is attached to a 6.5mm jack [the big one] BUT you also get a 3.5mm connector [i pod size connector etc] so happy happy days there like.
Ok so far?!
You may have read about sound leakage? this is true. But, erm.. too bad. It's because of the 'open design' which is why they are ridiculously comfy, and don't make your ears hot and sweaty, and as a result you dont get ears that feel like a mars-bar-left-on-the-dashboard-of-your-
car-in-July syndrome. My mate Igor had to have his ears amputated for this cruel condition...not really.
I dont even know anyone called igor, I'm from Wales, not the Kremlin.
What else can I say?... oh yeah, leakage, they do leak, quite a bit, I'm not bothered, hence the 5 star rating, but it's not too bad, I mean, it's quieter for your neighbours and family than blasting a boom box, so let them thank you for buying it in the first place. Having said that I no longer listen or speak to my wife as she get's in the way of my music, I grunted at her this morning when she left for work, i think she shouted something about "...putting the pork in at 5 " but at the same time Jimmy Page pulled a killer riff on 'Kashmir' so I'm not really sure, I can't find any pork anyway, so I don't know what she was on about.
Ermm... Price wise... Phenomenal value. your life will never be the same. What price is happiness, inner-fulfillment and content ? Eh??? That's the question.... about 97, that's how much. As for me, I haven't been this happy since i made that awesome sandcastle when I was 28, or that time I broke wind from both ends at EXACTLY THE SAME TIME at my sister's wedding. It did make my mum cry though, she's never loved me.
Ok, I'm off. buy these, they are simply the best. Better than all the rest. Better than anyone. Anyone I ever met. I love you, Jon xxx

5 out of 5 stars Remarkable sound even with underpowered MP3 players   September 20, 2008
I use these headphones almost exclusively with my two MP3 players, an elderly iRiver iHP-140 and a recent iPod Nano. In both cases the sound is superb - perfectly loud enough even with a relatively low power source. Of course the headphones sound a little better when plugged into a better source, but they are still a significant and noticeable step up from any other headphone I possess, including Shure E3Cs in-ear phones that I use for travelling and a mid range Sennheiser 495s that I keep at the office, both of which are otherwise very satisfactory.

There are some things you should know about these phones before you you buy. First, they are not bass heavy. Certainly there's plenty of bass extension, but it's in blance with the other frequency ranges. If you want headphones that rattle your teeth out, look elsewhere! Secondly, they are open, so you can hear everyone around you and (depending on volume) everyone can hear what you are listening to. Finally, on the versions I have, the headphones come with a quarter inch plug plus an adapter for the smaller sockets found on MP3 players. Woe betide you if you mislay this adapter, because the replacements you can buy connect poorly and will drive you to frustration... I was so glad I found the original adapter after mislaying it for some months!

While some of these points are annoying, they cannot detract from the overall quality of these headphones, both in terms of sound quality and listening comfort, and so for me there's only one possible score.

5 out of 5 stars brrilliant headphones   September 8, 2008
Not much to add to the other reviews, just confirmation. I have used them now for well over 30 hours.

They ARE very comfortable to wear, with or without glasses, over long periods of time, etc.

The sound IS brilliant - clear and defined high and middle frequencies, clear and differentiated voice, good bass response, spatial sound effect, lots of detail.
Brand new out of the box they are good but maybe a bit dull and muted - that starts to change within the first hour or two of use and then they just keep getting better - so, don't be disappointed on first hearing them, give them sufficient burn in time and your music experience changes.

They have worked well for me with classic, jazz, latin-american and world music as well as some rock.
Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars These headphones make sound explorable.   August 30, 2008
Having spent years listening to music through ipod headphones, something felt missing. The first night of listening through these sennheisers, I'd found out what it was. Firstly, I have to comment on how incredibly comfortable these are. They are wonderfully soft and you would soon forget you had them on. The sound these produce (and bear in mind, i've only tried them on my ipod) is amazing, I can only compare it to being immersed in an ocean of sound. Listening to The Verve, I was picking up previously inaudiable sounds and getting taken under by the sonic waves. These headphones make sound explorable, and I'm looking forward to the journey ahead. One drawback is that they are terribly anti-social. Listening to the Rolling People at full blast may also deafen your neighbour, but one redeming factor, for you, not your neighbour, is that for someone that likes to hear what's going on the outside world, is being sonically aware of your surroundings (i'm going to test this claim further at the airport) - I would get dizzy with sound if they were closed. Anyway, for a first time headphone buyer I'm very happy with my choice and once I'm deep in the musical woods in a few years, I think I'll see what other sounds are available. Enjoy. Oh, one last thing; the ear-parts (not very techincal i know) are a kind of sand colour (they would have been cool all black and grey) though the picture above doesn't show this. Have I got a different colour than what's advertised or is it not very clear on the picture?
