5 out of 5 stars Its a very good chip with the right motherboard   January 23, 2007

I bought an AsRock P4i65G motherboard (40) (Dual channel) memory with an AC4G Thermoelectric cooler (Peltier cooling fan/heatsink & circuit board for automatic control = 30). Graphics card Sapphire ATI 9600XT and the chip runs so smoothly. I updated the bios with the latest drivers and replaced the CMOS battery with a new one. The performance can be noticed if you play DVD's on Intervideo WinDVD 7 higher with TRIMENSION DNM switched on and some BIOS tweaks for the card (VHDD VDDR, set to high). With my old PC P4V88 motherboard the temp sky rockets but and this video play was juttery. But with this board everything is smooth like scating on ice and Game play sky rockets with idle tem. 38 degrees and game play 50 - 63 degrees. Video play and encoding, WMplayer and sound lags are all in the past, it can even outdo certain core to Duo's especially when overclocked. And heat will only rise 5 - 10 degrees.

EXCELLENT HYPERTHREADING PROCESSOR

3 out of 5 stars Over Hot!!!   December 26, 2006

I installed this processor in to the Asus P5GD1 motherboard and low and behold it works. Until I started using resource demanding tasks or playing games such as doom3 or resource hungry CIV 4, at which point I noticed the temperature jumped from 66c to 72c (Overheating) all the way through to 82c (Terrible) then performance diminishes and crashing occurs.

If your going for this make sure you have a good cooling system in place not the standard fan that comes with it.

Or try adding a couple more pounds and going for a Dual Core.

Previously, I used to have Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 800FSB, 512 kb L2 Cache. So i decided to upgrade to Prescott Core, with 1mb L2 cache and 3.2 GHz speed.
My old cpu used to have a stable temperature of 45 Degrees C. When i installed this, the temperature jumped to 70 Degrees Celcius, without any noticeable performance improvements.
