Easy peasy! January 4, 2009 This is the first time I've had a wireless router. I'm not exactly a technophobe, but I do normally find this sort of stuff tiresome. I wanted to replace my wired router so I could play Mario Kart and GT5 Prologue online.
It was really easy to set up with the supplied CD-ROM. I had a desktop PC, an iPod Touch, a Wii and a PS3 running from it within about 30 minutes.
It's been on nearly a week now, with no problems.
Very happy!

simple and quick, just what was needed. 20 mins from openibg the box to being fully ready to go wifi encrypted. made a pleasant change.
Worth it in the end December 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My first attempt at setting up a wireless modem nearly ended in failure as the setup wizard could not connect to my service provider. Several attempts and I was ready to give up. Luckily I re-read the reviews on this product and found some usefull info on resetting IP settings for my network connection back to automatic manually. Worth a try I thought and low and behold it connected straight away. It is now all working great and find it faster than my old modem. Range is also good and covers the whole house.
Excellent Bit Of Kit December 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using this modem/router now for about 6 months and I have to say its probably the best and most reliable bit of kit i ever bought.. set up was very easy, even for a vista laptop.. hook the computer up to the router via ethernet cable, pop in the cd, it automatically checks for an internet connection and sets most things up for you, you then need to input your internet username and password (for your ISP)and you are then ready to go, unplug from the ethernet cable and then you are pretty much wireless.. im running a toshiba laptop (wireless) and also my xbox 360 and blu-ray player (both wired for now)and i have never had a problem, I live in a house with strong solid and thick walls, the router is upstairs at the front of the house, i still get a reasonably strong signal downstairs at the back of the house in the kitchen, if this router ever fails on me i would by another without question.. there are different version numbers for this router, im not sure off hand what version mine is but i presume if you order this you will get the newest version.. Highly recommend this product.
Beware: set up procedure and long term quality problems November 25, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
My first Netgear 834G died after just two years - doesn't seem very long compared with other IT equipment I have. Netgear sent a free replacement, good. To set this up took three days of attempts to get it working (reflecting difficulties with setting up my original 834). In the end, I spent almost three hours on the phone with two different Netgear engineers - one from the sub-continent and difficult to understand, and one from LA, very helpful and knowledgable, who took a further 40 mins to fix the set up problem. The installation and set up material is entirely inadequate and contradictory, and assumes professional understanding of procedures and acronyms. It doesn't suggest using a professional to install it, which I would recommend. It works, but the hassle is too much.
