3 out of 5 stars Hmm...   August 16, 2006

I have an eMac computer. The webcam works perfectly on the mac, only, the software doesn't seem to be as good as what is provided for Windows users. It doesn't seem fair to give less to someone just because of what OS they use. I mean, I paid for the cam, and the software, and I want the same service as what everyone else gets.

The picture is of excellent quality, and the microphone is great. I have problems uploading videos on to the web though, as the codec isn't right for YouTube or whatever.

Definitely better than the last cam I had. That was a Mustek 300a cam.

5 out of 5 stars animation made easy and cheap   January 25, 2006

Recently returned to teaching technology to children for whom the education system has failed, I was looking for cheap hardware to do stop motion animation on an iBook. I tried iSight as a camera but it had no control over focus, exposure or colour balance. Being a long time photographer, these things mattered. The logitech 4000 has all these at a fraction of the price and is PC and Mac compatible. The difference in quality of image is astonishing. Oh and dead easy to set up too!

Works great - straight out of the box. No issues with installation. - Great picture and sound quality. I use this for both voice and video calls through Skype and Messenger - no problems at all.

4 out of 5 stars WORTH THE INVESTMENT   September 28, 2005

Very impressed with the camera and the quality is brilliant. I was going to go for the Quickcam Sphere as I know between them there is not much difference in quality. The reason I went for the Pro 4000 was the fact it was easily manoeuvrable, and less fragile then the Sphere's motorised design especially when you have young children around. As in previous reviews by others the lead is long, again only useful if you want to position it in an obscure place. There are two tripods one for the TFT screen and one for the desk which is a little fragile so be careful. I had a few small problems when installing both on my desk top PC which has XP Pro and my laptop with Win 98SE, but I managed to get it sorted in the end. If you don't require the Logitech Software on your computers then don't install this, it's not worth the extra time unless you want to take pictures and videos. Overall the camera is worth the investment, I have used cheaper cameras in the past and I would never look back. In low level light the Pro 4000 still gives a clear picture. Others who have seen me around the world say the picture is very clear which is encouraging. Overall I have rated it 4 stars due to the installation issues which can be over come and the fragile desk tripod. Other than that go and buy one, it's worth it especially at this price.
