Not just for Laptops September 25, 2008 My Xbox 360 recently died from the GPU melting so when I upgraded to the Xbox 360 Elite I wanted to get some form of cooling unit. Seen a review on another site saying it was ideal for the Xbox 360 so I got myself one from Amazon. It works a treat on the Xbox 360. Keeps it nice and cool and the fans themselves are very, vert quiet. The unit itself fits in very well with the colour of the Xbox 360 Elite and if fits perfectly under an Xbox. Highly recomended if you are worried about your Xbox melting.
Good for the first few months BUT August 30, 2008 Speaking as an Antec Notbook Cooler owner of four months so think I can be fair when judging it's good and bad points. I use my laptop all the time, from morn till night and to be honest even in the wee small hours; yes I am that geek who loves the cyber world and can't switch off so I need a laptop cooler which will do the job.
Firstly the GOOD news - It's very quiet even on high setting which I did not have to use until....see the bad points. Another GOOD one here - Only needed the high setting in the summer months when weather became warmer. Oh one more for GOOD luck - The Antec cooler is a good size, not too big, not too small but slim enougth to fit in the case with the puter.
Now the BAD, niggles first - The little rubber legs/nubbings or whatever you wish to call them? are supposed to be there so that the laptop is supported on the cooler. These kept coming off and I've lost two already thus laptop was lopsided and unsupported. My old machine was an HP and I managed with two rubber nubbings on diagnal corners so all was OK=ish. Went upmarket and brought an Apple Mac Pro which does not fit on this cooler properly. Second BAD point - Only one fan working after four months so laptop's heat increasing again on one side which means not only is it too small for my new laptop but no good for my hand-me-down laptop and I'm now having to purchase a new cooler again. And while we are on the subject of BAD points - Possibly because one of the fans was dying, I have had to have the fan on the highersetting for the past couple of months and yes I could hear it but not too bad however I didn't realise it was only working on one fan! BAD - I've recommended this cooler because I thought it was a darn good one and hope my friend will not have the same problem.
Maybe it should have a two rating but for the few months I had it, I liked the little thing, however will not buy another one.......
Works great with Xbox 360. July 3, 2008 Had this nearly a year now and cannot say a bad word...
I find it works very well, my 360 has never frozen from overheating while using it. Just plugs straight into a USB port and has a USB adapter so you don't loose the functionality of that port. Is whisper quiet and Xbox 360 sits on top perfectly. Of late I've just been leaving it plugged in all the time, even when my 360 is off, so when I go to play, it's super chilled.
Watch out for the airflow direction... June 13, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This may or may not be a good laptop cooler. The reason I don't know is that this cooler draws air in to the top and pushes it out of the side but my laptop (Acer Aspire) draws in air from underneath and pushes it out of the side. This means that the cooler and the laptop CPU fan are fighting against each other for the same air resulting in the cooler making virtually no difference to to the laptop temperatures.
Due to the design of the cooler it is not possible to reverse the airflow so don't bother trying.
If you're considering buying this cooler make sure your laptop draws air in from the sides or back and pushes it out of the underneath otherwise you are probably wasting your money and at 24 it's not the cheapest cooler around.
Build quality is ok and the 4 rubber spacers provided can be popped into holes in the top of the cooler for laptops that are a little bit too large for the unit (my Acer is 15.4" and only just fits without the laptop feet falling off the sides of the cooler).
On low speed the fans are quiet enough to not be noticeable but turn them up to high speed and they are a little too noisy for me.
As the direction of airflow for a cooler is a vital piece of information when deciding which cooler suits your laptop I do think that Amazon should include this information on its website for all coolers.
Awesome! April 12, 2008 I was trialling many methods of cooling my laptop, a 14.1" ASUS A8JS. I currently use my laptop for music editing, gaming, photoshop and generally watching movies on. It's also powering a Samsung Pebble 20" HDTV from the DVI port.
After being heavily disappointed with the freelogic gel cooler, i decided to just use my desk as an appropriate surface. After 20-40 mins of watching a film or photoshopping 5mp files, the CPU fan would cut in at its fastest setting - wait about 20 minutes and chances are it would hibernate.
I got this delivered today and i can only be pleasantly surprised with the results. The hi-lo switch does make a difference. If i'm playing games, watching movies or music editing/plugging in my guitar through the line6 tone port, or wearing headphones, i'd best leave it on hi. But even on the lowest settings, i'm getting these values on speed fan.
CPU - 23/25 degrees (ambient) - Idling - used to be 40-60 degrees idle GPU (Geforce 7700Go 512mb) - 44 degrees - used to idle at 70 degrees HDD - 36 degrees - idled at 50 degrees
I'm not kidding with you, but i was going to be happy with a 5 degree reduction from my previous temperatures, but this has exceeded expectations, and if you have a small notebook, in my case 14.1", it WILL work wonders, particularly with the amount of power that my laptop packs, not to mention that it'll last longer!
Gone are the days where i used to touch the heatsink and get midly warm, or get annoyed listeing to the loud whine of the CPU/GPU fan - this whisper quiet cooler allows me to listen to the birds singing outside.
Defintely worth getting!
