3 out of 5 stars Good - but not fast!   July 21, 2004

This is the only xD card reader that I have found - I used to have a camera that used SDRam cards but after purchasing a Fuji camera and having to use xD cards instead I decided to buy this card reader.

There is a very obvious reason for having a card reader and that is simply to extend the life of the batteries in your camera. You simply take the card out of the camera, insert it into this device and voila you can get your pictures on your computer and manipulate them to your hearts content by simply using Windows explorer (or any other program you want to use).

Just one word of advice though - it uses a USB 1.1 interface so it's actually not all that fast. It is much faster for me to transfer my pictures directly from my camera to my PC, but as I get bored with having to keep recharging the batteries in my camera I still use this device anyway. 7/10

5 out of 5 stars Superb - multifunction widget!   July 14, 2004

Bought this to accompany my S5000 camera. It was a doddle to install (both on a PC running XP-Home and on one running 98). It creates a new hard-disk. You can easily upload pictures using the drag and drop of Windows Explorer or you can use something like Adobe Photoshop/Album. The device is powered through the USB so it is much more economical than downloading direct from the camera. But that is not all! I also bought a 128Mb xd card and boy am I glad! I've never been that good at backing up my PC but this week the PC crashed. I managed to get some basic functionality before the thing went off to be repaired (and wiped blank!) but not the PCMCIA based CDR drive. However, using the xd card and reader, I was able to systematically strip off all my files and downloaded programs and transfer them to a spare partition on my partner's laptop by installing the reader on her machine too. It only took 10 trips back and fro to transfer over a gigabyte of data! I've now ordered a couple of 512Mb cards and will use them for backups from now on.

I COULD NOT FIND A XD CARD READER ALL THE SO CALLED 6 IN 1 READERS ARE OK IF YOU NEED TO USE AN OLD TYPE CARD BUT FOR THE ADVANCED AMONG US WE HAVE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL NOW ! photos and files can be transfired quickly from xd memory cards used in cameras and transfired to another computer quickley.
