2 out of 5 stars A sad waste of money   June 21, 2005

Dead on arrival. Mouse worked, pen did not.
Tech support answered within 3 rings, real person advised - request one by email and we will post you replacement immediately. Thank you for that, but:
The device is extremely low quality manufacture, pen has battery within, case of pen very fragile, liable to crack, feels awfil in hand. Mouse is absoultely awful, sharp edges, no weight.
Graphic pad is thin and nasty, unnecessarily large and tacky.
Applications bundled look very poor and are designed for W95 or NT and fail when lokking for word V97 (I am using V2003).
I guess if the system worked you might argue that is all one should expect for such a low price.
My advice - forget it unless you are on extrememly tight budget. Uggggggg!

2 out of 5 stars Good for navigation alternative, BAD FOR PRO'S!!!!   March 17, 2005

I bought this in the hope of adapting my skills from paper to PC using Corel Painter. I thought that I either was not good enough or that designing on PC was not as easy as I thought. I then tried another Tablet (Graphire3 Classic XL from Wacom) and realized it was nothing to do with either of the abouve.

I found this pen unresponsive and very inaccurate. The mouse was unusable as a mouse and the pressure monitoring was a joke (despite being adjustable). It was hard to draw a straight line let alone a decent digital sketch.

I now have a friend who has Arthritis and is now using this instead. As far as she is concerned it has helped her immensely as she finds a mouse painful to use.

So for her it's great for me it's rubbish.

Pay the extra for a Wacom device. You will not be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars good -- once it started working   November 27, 2004

i had a nightmare trying to install this tablet. apparently all the drivers and installation guides supplied with the tablet are out of date. i had to download a massive amount of updates from the nisis website and it still didn't work. my installation cd gave me a black screen when i tried to run it. i emailed nisis who sent a replacement cd which did the trick (excellent fast customer support).

since installing the pen i've found it does what i expected for the price - not too smooth when tracing and the positioning isn't very accurate, but nice pressure sensitivity and very easy to use. the mouse is a nice extra but i find it a bit annoying to use on such a small surface. i've yet to try out the handwriting recognition but that would be a nice feature if it works.

4 stars for product/value for money, 2 for it not working, 5 for customer service.

5 out of 5 stars Great for trying out tablets   July 6, 2004

I really wanted to buy a tablet for drawing, but didn't have the money to get a really good one. I eventually bought this because of value for money. It seemed to have a greater active area and a higher resolution than most other tablets out there for the same price.
After having got over the shock of how cheap it looked, and getting used to working with the pen, it turned out to be very easy to work with. The pressure sensitivity met my expectations - even though it didn't prove easily compatible with some graphics programs it worked well with my favourites. There is no way I would go back to using the mouse for colouring now :)
The only serious weird behaviour I've come across is when you open a pdf file, the cursor become restricted to the top left hand corner of the screen (easily solved by logging off).
I wouldn't say I would be happy working with this tablet forever, but I am not disappointed with my choice and would recommend it to anyone buying their first tablet.
