Product Description The HDR-SR8 full HD camcorder from Sony is the new and improved version of the famous HDR-SR7. Featuring a 100 GB hard drive (compared to just 60 GB on the SR7), the HDR-SR8 Handycam camcorder can record 38 hours of high definition video in 1080i. Voted "European HD Camcorder of the Year" for 2007-2008 by the EISA (European Imaging and Sound Associaton), this camcorder is compact, light, and unbelievably efficient. Its Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens and 3.2-megapixel CMOS sensor ensure that your video recordings are sharp and clear. Meanwhile, the 6-megapixel camera function allows you to capture your best shots on film, which you can then save to the memory card. You?ll even be able to take detailed close-up photos thanks to the HDR-SR8?s macro mode. The HDR-SR8 also features x.v.Colour technology to improve brightness and reinforce contrast, giving you the best images possible. Its HDMI connectivity makes it possible to view your creations on HDTV, so you can organise private screenings for your own films! What?s more, with its Dolby Digital 5.1 audio recording sound system and built-in microphone, you can add surround sound to your Full HD videos. The HDR-SR8 comes with an accessories holder that can accommodate an external microphone. An ideal choice for amateur cinematographers and film fans, this camcorder will record your daily life and turn your home videos into masterpieces. With the Sony HDR-SR8, high definition videos are now within your reach!

Failed after 2 months March 27, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Yes a good camera as far as picture quality etc. is concerned BUT the hard drive has become disconnected after only two months, (apparently a common problem) losing a lot of valuable work and now no-one at Sony can tell me if the camera is eligible for warranty, having been bought in Hong Kong.

The quality of filming is fantastic the camera is stylish small and compact. Unfortunately you are very very limited in taking the footage from camera to editing software if you are a mac owner i wouldn't even consider this camera. I am so disappointed great footage and no way to edit it !

All the features I need as a semi-pro, in a compact, beautiful camcorder with a superb lens and outstanding quality with small file size thanks to the great AVCHD codec! Who is that 1 star idiot ;)?
Great Camera!!! November 24, 2007 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
Bought this camera five weeks ago whilst on holiday, have recorded both HD ans SD. The HD is mindblowing when hooked upp to a 1080HD TV. You would honestly think it was recorded by a pro.
Also bought Sony Vegas Platinum editing studio. This does thet you edit the AVCHD format and burn it to standard DVD's in SD format whilst keeping the original HD content for future burns to Blu Ray when cost comes down or showing on a HD TV via the Camcorder its self.
To summarise, an amazing camera at a great price.
Excellent - beautiful camcorder October 10, 2007 36 out of 36 found this review helpful
I replaced my old tape camcorder for this and immediately it struck me - no more would I need a mountain of tapes that are a pain to copy for editing and then don't have the courage to tape over and re-use. Forget hoping that the tape wouldn't run out at the critical part in the wedding or fiddling with an tape insert and a biro to try and keep some semblance or order to the holiday films. OK enough about my bad habits and old woes.
This camcorder is glorious, I play the footage back through a 720p projector and its crisp ,sharp and mind blowingly detailed. The sound is clear and with the added bluetooth wireless mic that I bought afterwards allows the recorded sound to really follow the action. The unit fits comfortably in hand, the build quality is sturdy and the weight makes for a steady shot without feeling like you're carrying a lead bar. The fold out screen is bright and very highly detailed. Indoor low light performance sucks - that was until I bought another add on - the light attachment - now its great. Best of all - is the 'easy' button which handles all the settings and I haven't felt the need to change it yet.
The price is a serious investment and the add ons are steep as well (I do recommend the light and extended battery) but if you have any HD equipment or are planning to upgrade why would you want to watch your once only memories on anything less? As for the format - don't worry so much about editing - Sony Vegas Platinum 8 (<50) is fine DO worry about your PC processing power though.
I love this bit of kit.
