Despite the fact that it can be infuriatingly slow at times I am something of a fan of the Naruto anime series and came to this manga after I heard it was much better with less filler. I would have to agree with this as I have found this manga far more focused and easier to get into than the anime ever was.
This first volume of the manga sees Naruto being trained and tested so that he can become a Ninja. The artwork is good while the plot itself is well written and quite funny. There are a few minor differences from the anime but these are easy to get use to and I am probably enjoying these early books more than I did the early anime episodes. Overall, although I have read better manga in the past, Naruto is nonetheless entertaining and definitely shows potential.

Kishimoto's artwork is simple, yet effective. Great at drawing expressive, silly faces! And the action scenes are just fantastic. All the characters are great, and you will soon have your favourites.
Try and seek out the awesome 27 volume box set too, I was lucky to get one from Santa! ;0)
Watch the anime too, but try to ignore the horrific english dub!! (Those american voices really really get on my nerves!!)

Firstly if youve discovered the anime television series of naruto first (and didn't like it.), the erase its memory from your brain!
Naruto is now probably the most well known serialised manga running (or that yugi-card thing) its reached volume 41 in japan and has plenty of plot left in it, reading naruto is becoming something of a commitment but when you can get each book for like 1.50 new & used, maybe its not so bad.
its totally enjoyable, every book steps things up from the last, there no vampires/ghosty dragon stereotypes either, every crazy new idea is completely original, its worth reading alone for masashi kishimotos imagination, its really that unique. basicly if you like pictures & fun, you stand a good chance of enjoying naruto.

Its interesting to see the diffence between the anime and the manga. Though the manga may not be suitable for young readers as it contains bloody violence and mild language that where tamed for the anime/tv adaptation.
In the first book you are introduced to the main character, the number one hyperactive nuckle head ninja Naruto Uzumaki, who has the power of the furious nine-tailed fox bound within him, and follows the beginnings of his struggles for acceptance from other ninja and his dream to become the next Hokage.
But nothing puts Naruto down for long, ever ready with a prank and always with a smile on his face.
A definite must read for Naruto fans.

Naruto is a really great manga that follows the training of three wanna be master ninjas. There's the mischievous Naruto, who is obviously the star of the story; the girl he has a crush on (but who hates him), Sakura; Sasuke, who is constantly being obsessed over by Sakura; and then Kakashi who is their teacher.
I've only read the first volume, hence the reason I'm reviewing it, so this is really more a first impressions kind of review rather than anything that'll go into any degree of depth. So far I think I would definitely have to agree with the general trend of positive reviews being posted here; this manga is totally awesome so far! I think the artwork, while simple, is great; the dialogue funny and pretty good for a shonen jump; and the authors notes provide a first hand insight into the making of the manga. The story line, while still in its infancy, is completely intriguing and has gotten me hooked from the beginning.
If you are worried that this is gonna be a little too immature for you then it might just be. However, if you are the kind of person who doesn't give a c*** about how mature you are, then buy this right now. Chances are you'll love it.
