Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 A-Z Tools and features illustrated ready reference By Philip Andrews
If there was one book to keep on the desk at all times, this would be such a book. Packed with easy to follow instructions and colourful illustrations, this book is a visual feast for the reader. The chapters are broken into each letter so that any issue the reader may have can be quickly found alphabetically within the book. All tips, techniques and topics are covered here, from calibrating the monitor to merging layers. Each feature is addressed in columns, and under each title (where applicable) are shortcuts, compatibilities and where to find it. This is, of course explained in the "how to use this book" section on page 3!
The book is not however restricted to the column format that it is in. If a feature needs its own page to be explained then it is done so with brilliant detail. This book is destined to have post it notes stuck all the way through it, as it is a veritable fountain of information, packed into a uniquely designed reference book. Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 A-Z February 4, 2007 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
"Photoshop Elements 5 A-Z" forms part of a trilogy of titles by Philip Andrews for Focal Press. The other titles "Photoshop Elements 5 - A Visual Introduction to Digital Photography", aimed at beginners; and "Advanced Photoshop Elements 5 for Digital Photographers", for those wanting to take things further, complete the trilogy. As a photographer myself, making the transition from film to digital and struggling to get to grips with the new technology and software, I have found Philip Andrews' books to be invaluable - and this one has proved no exception. "Photoshop Elements 5 A-Z" is as the title states, a literal A-Z of every single aspect of the software. For instance, if you want to learn about Layers, simply turn to "L" in the book, find Layers, and read about every Layers feature and command. The book is not just a dry glossary of terms either as some may expect; for each item listed, there are full colour screen shots and examples of how to use the particular feature being discussed. The book has been fully updated for version 5 and there is a brand new section of step by steps at the beginning which cover 27 of the most popular techniques that users most often use. The book can be read from cover to cover or used as a quick reference when you want to find out about a particular feature. This is without doubt one of the most helpful books out there on Photoshop Elements and the only one that gives you an A-Z guide. For those who are new to the software it is a real godsend but there is even plenty in there for Photoshop Elements granddads. Highly recommended.
