5 out of 5 stars Excellent   December 26, 2006

Don't let the fact that this book is thinner than many other animation books mislead you. It is packed with useful information that can be read chronologically for those learning how to animate, or it can be dipped into and used for reference if you are an animator who just needs a tip or reminder on how to achieve a desired movement or effect. Great stuff.

This book is awesome.

If animation is your thing, then you should definately have this in your collection. It's easy to read and understand for the new animator, and is an excellent source of information for veteran animators!

Buy it!

5 out of 5 stars This is the bible for any serious animator.   March 25, 2002

Although it was principally written for 2D animation, this book has crucial information for any animator(2D, CGI or model animation).
Timing for Animation explains simply and clearly how to time a walk or a run; how to give your character a sense of weight; how force is transmitted;the effects of friction; spacing -and much more.
The new forward by John Lasseter puts these traditional skills in today's context, and gives praise where it is due.
Every animator, would-be animator, animation studio and animation course should have this book .

5 out of 5 stars The definitive animation book   February 24, 2001

I'm an animation student, studying in North Wales. This book went out of print in the 80's, so I had to photocopy the whole thing off a friend! At last I can own my own copy. If you only ever buy one animation book in your life - get this one.

Most animation books, ie: The Illusion of Life, are good, and tell you stuff, but are basically designed for the Coffee Table. Timing for Animation gets down to the nuts and bolts of what animations about, and thats Timing. Buy it!
